In this lesson, you learned:
A computer is a collection of several electronic components that work together to process instructions provided by a user.

The components of computer are as follows:
• Visual Display Unit (VDU)
• Keyboard
• Mouse
• System Unit

Hardware components are the physical components of a computer. Following are the hardware components:
• Input Devices
• Output Devices
• Processing Device
• Storage Devices

Input devices enable a user to enter data into a computer for processing.
The user interacts with a computer using the following types of input devices:
• Keyboard
• Mouse
• Scanner

Output devices are used to display processed data, create printed copies, and play sound in a computer.
Following are some of the output devices:
• Visual Display Unit (VDU)
• Printers
• Plotters

When data is input to a computer, it is processed by the system unit. The two main component of the system unit are:
• CPU
• Memory

CPU controls the operations of a computer system and executes all instructions specified by a user.
Memory is an electronic storage area for instructions and data that can be accessed by a CPU.
Memory is measured in the following units:
• Bit
• Byte
• Kilobyte
• Megabyte
• Gigabyte
• Terabyte

Different types of storage devices are:
• Floppy Disk
• Hard Disk
• CD-ROM

Software can be classified into two main categories:
• Operating system software
• Application software

The development of software includes the following stages:
• Analysis
• Designing
• Coding
• Testing
• Implementation

The performance of a computer depends on following factors:
• CPU Speed
• Clock Speed
• RAM Size
• Hard Disk Speed
