Using the Computer and Managing Files: Chap1-Less4

DESKTOP ICONS AND COMPONENTS

When the user switches on the computer, the operating system is loaded and the user is prompted to login.
Desktop is the first computer screen that appears in a GUI operating system like, Windows 7 after a user has logged on to the computer. It is a collection of various components such as Taskbar and
Program icons that may either represent folders or shortcuts to various applications.

A Shortcut is an icon that allows you to open an application directly. A user can thus organize files,
applications and folders according to convenience on the desktop. This makes access to frequently used objects an easy task.

 1.Desktop Icons

A icon can be defined as  a picture on a computer screen( a small image) that represents something such as a program or device, that is activated by a mouse click .By clicking on an icon you Open a program.
NB: On previous lesson we saw a computer Icon.

The various icons, which are displayed on the desktop, are:
My Computer
My Network Places
Internet Explorer
Recycle Bin
My Documents

 2.Desktop Components
The desktop provides components that enable you to perform actions such as starting an application and
switching between applications. These components include the following:
-The Taskbar
-The Start menu

Taskbar
The Windows operating system displays all the active applications as buttons on the taskbar that is located
at the bottom of the desktop. To switch to another application, click the corresponding button.

Start Menu
The Start button is located at the leftmost corner of the taskbar.
Click the Start button to display the Start menu, as shown in the following figure:

You can configure the desktop environment by changing the appearance of the computer screen through
components, such as color, fonts, and background image. In addition, you can modify date and time and
change volume settings. For example, you can modify the colors of the display on a monitor or insert
a background image of any format, such as GIF and JPEG.

We are now familiar with basic components of a computer and GUI.  Then, let us move forward into deeper learning and more complicated subjects.
However in my following publications i will share some useful links and videos on Microsoft office softwares.
Keep it up!
Success is a Process!
